March 10, 2016 (Sparks, MD): JMT Technology Group has been working with the Maryland State Highway Administration to develop a public-facing web application called Public eGIS. The newest content released in Public eGIS is Maryland Bridges in Black and White.
This application provides access to photos taken by the Baltimore-based Hughes Photography Company from the 1920s to the 1940s to document the construction of Maryland’s bridges. The images portray the construction methods and equipment from that period in time and they provide detailed visual information about communities in which the bridges are located. Many photos provide rare glimpses of the nineteenth and early twentieth century bridges that were demolished to make way for the structures built during the 1920s, 1930s,and 1940s. At this time, the application contains images and data for bridges in eastern and western Maryland. Bridges in central Maryland will be added soon.
