- What do you do at JMT? As a Geospatial Solutions Lead, I work with clients and project teams to develop and implement GIS and data-driven solutions. My role also focuses on expanding JMT’s geospatial capabilities in North Carolina, both within our existing team and through new project opportunities.
- What brought you to JMT? Ultimately, it was the people and culture. I was first drawn to JMT’s diverse array of projects and wide range of geospatial application areas. Through conversations with employees, it became clear how strongly JMT values its people and fosters collaboration across teams. The fact that there are so many long-tenured employees throughout the company speaks volumes.
- What do you like most about JMT? The combination of diverse skillsets, projects, and industry expertise along with the emphasis on collaboration has made working at JMT very rewarding. In my first few months so far, I have already learned new software and skills by working across teams, while also contributing my own background and experience to help other team members solve challenges. This collaborative culture enhances both team morale and the quality of project delivery.
- What type of projects do you like to work on most? I enjoy using tools and logic to make sense out of complex processes and data. Finding the right combination of technology and workflow to create a robust solution to solve a data puzzle is extremely rewarding, especially when you see it directly benefit stakeholders. At its core, I believe the notion of creating meaning from noise is what draws many people to GIS—whether it’s gaining insight from satellite imagery or uncovering patterns by visualizing data on a map.
- What advice do you have for someone who wants to get into this industry / career? With technology evolving at such a rapid pace, staying current with the latest developments and trends is a great way to stand out. If you already have specific domain background or expertise, then looking for ways to apply geospatial tools to gain deeper insights from that data is a great next step. The wide availability of data, open-source tools, and AI today means there are plenty of opportunities to dive in and build something with relatively little experience.
- What is something new and exciting that you're working on? I’m working with a client to solve complex data challenges by developing analysis and tools to make sense of data lineages and maintenance processes. Even from the beginning phases of developing diagrams to visualize existing process logic, it has been rewarding to see how certain visuals can provide clarity to stakeholders for understanding complex processes. I’m also expanding my skills in tools like Power BI to integrate data across sources and develop new insights.
- Please share some fun facts about yourself. Outside of work, I enjoy music (…had I not discovered GIS in college, my original career goal was to play French horn professionally), traveling, and spending time outside and with family. My husband and I attended rival colleges and enjoy taking our boys to various sporting events. We enjoy traveling, whether it’s to North Carolina beaches or visiting family across the country.
