We are delighted to share that the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York has named JMT Technology Group, a division of JMT of New York, Inc., the 2024 ACEC New York gold award winners in the category of studies, research, and consulting engineering services. The award was given for JMT’s work on the City of Syracuse’s Traffic Management Center Dashboard.

The traffic management center dashboard combines multiple feeds, such as data from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and Esri Traffic, to relay comprehensive metrics on events including accidents, road closures, and delays in transit. The incorporation of new technology in the form of Esri’s ArcGIS Velocity provides operators with real-time information on the location of city buses, and advanced techniques such as geo-fencing allow the buses to be ‘hidden’ when not in operation. The dashboard provides the user with real-time, near-real-time, and crowd-sourced data giving them the full picture of the city’s traffic issues and flow. This allows the operators to pinpoint the correct resources and efficiently navigate them to the issue for correction.

“The traffic management center dashboard has resulted in improved traffic safety, reduced congestion, and enhanced the efficiency of transportation systems for the City of Syracuse,” said Neil Burke, Director of Special Projects for Syracuse’s Department of Public Works.

Each year, over 50 member firms submit projects that are judged on a rigorous set of criteria, which includes complexity, innovation, and value to society. These projects are judged by a panel of industry experts, which includes military and government officials, ACEC National and International leadership, educators from college and university engineering departments, and leadership from other organizations dedicated to the built environment.
